ABOUT US
The Military & Government Counseling Association (MGCA) is a division of the American Counseling Association dedicated to advancing guidance, counseling, and education within military and government communities.
Building on the foundation established under MECA, MGCA’s mission has evolved to be more inclusive, supporting professionals who serve active duty and retired members of the Armed Services, their families, civilian employees of the Department of Defense, and personnel across local, state, and federal government agencies.
MGCA works to:
- Promote and participate in meaningful guidance, counseling, and educational programs across military and government settings
- Support professional development for administrators, counselors, and educators serving these populations
- Uphold the highest standards of ethical and professional practice
- Strengthen communication and collaboration among professionals in the field
- Encourage the development of professional research, monographs, and conference presentations
- Foster programs that support human development and promote humanistic values within agencies and organizations
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in MGCA is open to individuals who are members in good standing with the American Counseling Association (ACA). The association is comprised of more than 700 members across Professional, Regular, Retired, and Student categories.
LEADERSHIP & ENGAGEMENT
MGCA offers members meaningful opportunities for leadership and
service through participation on the Executive Committee. Officers
are elected annually from the membership and include the President, President-Elect, Immediate Past President, Secretary, Treasurer, Governing Council Representative, and twelve Directors.
CONFERENCES & PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Conferences & Professional Learning in conjunction with the annual
ACA Conference and Exposition, MGCA hosts a business meeting to share reports, conduct association business, and deliver programs that benefit members. MGCA may also sponsor up to six educational sessions at the conference. All MGCA members are encouraged to submit session proposals for review through MGCA’s internal selection process.
